Selectmenu keyboard without popup and VoiceOver

Description

Tabbing to the selectmenu and then using up/down arrows to select an option has no screen reader announcement with using VoiceOver on Mac OS X 10.9.5 and Chrome 39 or Firefox 34. In safari there is also no announcements when popup is active as well.
