Dropdowns within Tabs are slow in Firefox, IE, etc

Description
I don't know whether this has been filed before. One of the sites I work on is using jQueryUI and jQUI Tabs among other things.
On pages where jQUI Tabs where used, any drop downs within the tabs functioned with significant lag, responding to clicks very slowly.
A fake tabs solution using jQuery to show/hide tabs does not experience this issue.
Please provide a demo file showing this problem.
