Here, the outterDiv (background-color: fuscha) always gets the drop, even though the inner div has a higher z-index and is overlay ontop.

$('.draggable').draggable(); $('.droppable').droppable({

drop: function (event, ui) {

$('#status').append('Dropped on ' + $(this).css('background-color') + '<br />');

</head> <body>

<div id="outterDiv" class="droppable" style="height: 500px; width: 50%; background-color: Fuchsia; z-index: 200;">

<div class="draggable" style="position: absolute; top: 50px; left: 50px; width: 100px; background-color: Green; z-index: 1000;">

Hey! Drag me :)

</div> <div class="droppable" style="position: absolute; top: 100px; left: 100px; width: 25%; height: 200px; background-color: Blue; z-index: 400;"> </div> <div id="status" style="background-color: Gray; width: 50%; height:100px; overflow:auto;"> </div>

</body> </html>
