Dialog: checkboxes that inherit a z-index < jqueryui.dialog z-index don't work

1. A dialog with form input elements, specifically a checkbox input.
2. The checkbox is wrapped in a div which is positioned absolute and has a z-index smaller than the dialog's z-index.
3. The checkbox can't be clicked, because the event will not bubble up so the browser can handle it.

The source code responsible for this is: jquery.ui.dialog.js, Line 705

if ($(event.target).zIndex() < $.ui.dialog.overlay.maxZ) { return false; }

I am also having this problem (in IE8-). IE appears to misreport the z-index as .
